On Mood Boards:
I absolutely love putting together mood boards. I know a lot of people like to do this with Pinterest, which Ido too, in fact, I use Pinterest to find these images but, I feel like the process of pulling them out of the browser and actually asking myself, “Is this something I just like? Or, is this something I genuinely want to pull from?”
The truth is, I could sit and mindlessly build up pinboards for days but for the exercise to be truly useful to me it has to go a step further.
So above is one of the many boards I have created and curated for the Hey! Delilah capsule collection that I am in the process of making right now!
With people looking back at 90’s fashion and myself, growing up in the 90’s I find myself going full circle back to the 70s. Fashion is cyclical after all.
I’m definitely feeling warm colours, bold prints and graphic shapes and as you will no doubt see in the posts to follow.
I thought I would show you a few more to give you a feel of how I use mood boards to explore new ideas and concepts.
Every few years or so I go back and revise my personal style board, I like to add a mix of my own creations and look at pulls from fashion, music, pop culture, film and tv among other things.
This year I followed the wonderful Find Your Style course by Andy J. Pizza on Skillshare, just to shake things up a bit. I highly recommend these practical and very actionable exercises and one like them if, like me, you struggle to define your style.
Lastly, here is a board that gets quite specific. I was looking for inspiration for some custom graphics I wanted to make for my client Bambi’s Den. Naturally, I don’t want to plagiarize but what I took from this was the line-based drawings, it gave me clues as to what elements to draw to help me start to build a library of images that eventually contributed to the following pattern.
